Borderland

Sunday wind howling like coyotes,

transporting,

hurricane forces  battling,

Mexican-American haboob

slamming and banging across the yard,

knocking on doors

begging for pancakes.

Sunday wind, popcorn air

dry and hot

turning crops,

cotton, squash blossoms;

turning people,

farmers, migrant workers

into buttery snacks.

Sunday wind swooshing, wooshing

across the desert,

searching for border crossers,

camouflaging,

concealing the journey,

riding the path to la familia

and Sunday night dinner.
