Oysters

Anger easily replaces love,

thriving on the same intensity.

Once anger moves in,

it’s hard to return to love

the shift becoming about control,

power,

rather than

kisses,

compassion.

Yet

an oyster makes a pearl

under such conditions.

That pearl is prized by the world.

I wonder about women of the Fifties,

June Cleaver debutantes, earning

so many pearl necklaces.
