To review First Degree Reiki:

Preparing your Treatment Space

You have now been practicing Reiki 1 for at least a month.  This is a reminder of how to start any session and a good place to begin before learning the next steps to Reiki healing.

Before starting any session, it is important to clear the space of any negative energy.  This includes you as well as the client.  There are several ways to clear negative energies.  If you do not do this step, you could be infusing the space, the client, and yourself with more negative energies resulting in a less effective treatment or some kind of energy sickness.

  1. Smudge the room, yourself and your client with:
  2. Sage
  3. Palo Santo
  4. A protection blend of herbs of your own creation.

  1.  Use the smoke from any of the above to permeate all corners of the room, doors and windows.  Use the smoke to permeate the body’s entire aura, making sure you get under the feet.

  1. Make a mix of salt and water in a spray bottle. Salt neutralizes both positive and negative energies.  Use the salt spray in all corners of the room, doors and windows.  Use the salt spray to permeate the body’s entire aura, making sure you get under the feet.

  1. Use the Reiki symbols in the air in big sweeping motions. You will now be able to do this.

  1. Make a hydrosol of essential oils with spring water and follow the same method as with the salt spray. Pine, Frankincense, Myrrh, Rose, Sandalwood, Cinnamon, Black pepper, and Clove are a great for this purpose.  Use only one or use them all or any combination.  Remember that the ratio is 15 drops to 1 oz. of water.  Add 20% alcohol, Brandy is traditional, but anything will work.  This acts as a preservative.

Use whichever method or any combination that works best for you.

Here’s my personal blend that I use:

Reiki Clearing Spray Recipe:

In a 2 oz. Amber Glass Spray bottle mix:

5 drops of Pine oil

3 drops of Cypress oil

3 drops of Black Spruce oil

5 Drops of Ylang Ylang oil

2 Drops of Clove Bud oil

2 Drops of Palo Santo oil

5 drops of Rose oil

5 drops of Rosewood oil

Add 20% Brandy

Fill the remaining of the bottle with Spring or Filtered water.

Shake well.

Shake before each use.

Use only Therapeutic grade, top quality oils.

The Symbols

Reiki II teaches three symbols: Cho Ku Rei, the power symbol; Sei He Ki, the emotional/mental symbol; and Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, the distance symbol. The symbols are put into your aura during the attunement. The first of these symbols is:

Cho Ku Rei – The Power Symbol

Cho Ku Rei (Cho-Koo-Ray)  The general meaning is “Place the power of the universe here.”  It raises the energy, vibration, and overall flow. You might think of it as boosting the power. You can use it to empower a room or the space around you as you walk down the street. Like all symbols, use it intuitively during a session. The traditional version is counter-clockwise. You can visualize it spiraling into the cells of the body.  Draw or visualize the symbol in front of you, this gives you instant access to additional healing energies. It can also be used at the end of the session to close off or shut down and seal in the Reiki energies.  It also gives the other symbols additional power boosts.  It can be used at any time, but is especially useful at the beginning of a session.

The horizontal line represents the Reiki source. The vertical line represents the energy flow, and the spiral line that touches the center line seven times represents the seven Chakras.

Sei He Ki – The Emotional Symbol

Sei He Ki (pronounced say-hay-key) The general meaning is “God and man become one” It is mental / emotional.  It brings the mind and the body together and allows the emotional causes of issues come to the surface to be released. It balances the left and right side of the brain to bring in peace and harmony.  It is the symbol for clearing negative emotions. It is the yin and the yang, balancing the brain.

One a simplistic level it can be used to clear negativity like an energetic version of sage; just as sage can be burned to clear emotional space and unwanted energies, you can use Sei He Ki.

A different way, but equally effective way to use Sei He Ki would be to visualize it over an accident scene or a trauma location to clear the traumatic energy. Situations like the January 8th shooting in Tucson or visualize earthquake sites in another country.

reiki symbol 3

The left side of the symbol represents the left side of our brain, (logic, structure, and linear thinking.)  The right side of the symbol represents the right side of our brain, (fantasy, feelings, and intuition.)

Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen

(aka God’s Foundation of Perfect Love or Be Here Now or No Past No Present No Future)

– The Distance Symbol or “The Buddha in me contacts the Buddha in you”

Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (pronounced hon shaw tsay show nen) is the symbol that allows for distance healing through both time and space.

The symbol is used for karmic healing, if you believe in karma and past lives. You can access the Akashic records.  It can also be used to clear issues from the past in this lifetime. Another way to look at it is that it can clear and remold agreements made by our soul when it incarnates in this lifetime. It can also be used to send energy to the future to help manifest. It can also be used to send a Reiki treatment through time and space. You could send Reiki to someone around the world.  You can send it ahead to wait for you for a surgery, a test, an airline flight, anything that you want to be filled with positive energy.

Using the Symbols

There are many ways to use the symbols, and really no right or wrong way.   Reiki energy is Divine and only goes to highest good.

As far as using the symbols, you simply visualize them, draw them with your finger or hand in the air, think their names, or set your intent for what they are.  You want to do this three times for each symbol.

Distance Healing

Once you are attuned to Reiki II, you can officially start sending Reiki through time and space. Like with anything, you basically set the intention to do so, and then create a ritual for doing it. Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, or Be Here Now is the symbol that technically allows you to do this.

Other possibilities for sending distance Reiki treatments are to just send the symbols, first bridging the time and space continuum with the distance symbol, then send the Cho Ku Re and the Sei He Ki.

Healing the Past

One way to use the distance symbol is to help heal the past to clear the impact of the past on the present moment. The past you are healing might be a past life, karma, and/or a traumatic event from this lifetime. You could consciously use the distance symbol to connect to the past event, and then send the other symbols. You could visualize the event or client as their younger self. Or, you could just use the symbol intuitively at some point during a session without even consciously seeing what you are healing. You can use the distance symbol on yourself as well.

As well as using the distance symbol within a session to heal the past or manifest the future, you can provide complete Reiki sessions to clients through time and space. There are several ways to send the distance session. Note that unless you are talking by phone, or emailing the recipient immediately before and after the session, there is no need to send the Reiki at the exact same time they are receiving the session. You can send the session before or after the time they receive the session because Reiki goes through time as well as space. For that matter you can even send the session out ―into space and let them receive it when they are ready.

Healing or Manifesting the Future

Just as you can send Reiki back in time to heal the past, you can send Reiki forward in time to help manifest or heal the future. Use can create any ritual that works for you to send the energy to the future. You can also help a client manifest their future as well. What you create is limitless.

The Surrogate Method for Distance Sessions

There are numerous ways to ―send the distance Reiki session. You could have a person be a surrogate and give this surrogate and in-person treatment intending the distance client to receive the session. The surrogate is merely a channel and as such you need not worry about them picking up the client’s symptoms or energies. You could use a teddy bear or doll as a surrogate and give the doll a treatment. You could use your upper leg as a surrogate, imagining the knee as the client’s head and the upper thigh as the client’s feet. You could simply imagine the client in front of you. Whatever method of surrogate you choose, you then simply do a full Reiki session on the surrogate with the intention that your distance client receives it. Like with all Reiki they will receive whatever their highest Spirit allows.

Reiki on Plants and Animals

Your plants and pets will love Reiki.  Always ask them first.  You can use the same hand positions as with people on your pets, (the next pages are some anatomy sketches.)  For plants, you can just arrange your hands around as it feels appropriate.  You can even use Reiki on your food to increase its vitality before ingesting it.

Post Attunement “Detoxification”

It is recommended that you drink lots of water after an attunement.   I also recommend adding citrus to it.  Fresh fruit, especially citrus is pure energy and helps the body to recover more quickly.  Many people find that they need to increase water intake permanently after being attuned to any system of healing energy.

Attunements and treatments begin the recipient’s personal healing immediately. This sometimes shows up as symptoms of physical or emotional release such as an excess of gas, diarrhea or moodiness. This may be part of your detoxification process. Everyone is different.  Most people do not have any noticeable effects of this kind. A few people have reported a lot of emotional processing for up to 3 weeks or 21 days after an attunement. Some people report having unusually vivid dreams just after the attunement.

If you are having a detoxification reaction I encourage you to self treat with Reiki often, drink water, eat fruit, sleep and do contact me.

Everyone should be reminded that in some cases the release of toxins, energetic, or physical realignments may cause you to feel worse for a short time before you feel better. You may feel somewhat uncomfortable when chronic physical, emotional or mental conditions are alleviated because you are unaccustomed to feeling well or this new way of being.

The United States has very severe penalties for practicing medicine without a license. Reiki is not diagnostic. We do not in any way attempt to locate or define medical or psychological needs.

Anyone seeking Reiki treatments who has a medical condition should be reminded to see an appropriate practitioner.

Reiki practitioners do often develop an intuition about areas of concern and possible conditions.

They might ask questions and suggest that the client ask a Doctor about something. During the treatment many practitioners find that they sometimes receive intuitive impressions or information about the client or situations. Check with your intuitive source before sharing any such information; the information may be intended only for you or it may be meant for you to share. Confirmation of whether or not to share is usually easy to receive, if unsure do not. Remember that you are a Reiki channel not a Doctor or Psychologist (unless you are of course).

Many states have passed laws that do not allow anyone who is not a medical professional, i.e., doctor, chiropractor, massage therapist, or an ordained minister from doing any kinds of hands on healing work.  Many Reiki practioners become ordained ministers.

In Conclusion

You now have a solid understanding of Reiki 2.  You have a working knowledge of three symbols, what they do and a variety of ways to use them to enhance your Reiki sessions. You have an overview of the basic techniques, and laws.   Congratulations!  You have completed Reiki level 2.

I hope to see you in Reiki Level 3.
